nationwide search was under way to locate ben and henry, they were on a holiday trip with their father in tennessee, they were supposed to return to georgia on december 24th, they never came back. during our live interview last night teresa made a desperate plea for help to find her sons. minutes after that interview, the boys called their mother, told her they were safe and that they were in austin, texas. police there tell cnn that someone at a hotel recognized the boy from the amber alert and our program and contacted police. theresa jumped on a plane to texas and was reunited with her sons just hours later. theresa and her sons have returned and they came here to our couch to share their story. she has not told them everything. but here's how our conversation went. >> tell us what happened at the hotel. >> we tried calling her, but it went to -- it seemed like her phone was shut off. and there was no -- it didn't turn -- it didn't answer. >> right. >> and then the man came in and said what? >> i forget. what man? >> the man came in and said, we've been looking for you everywhere? >> y

big picture here, ben. it's a very challenging time for so many folks. if you look at the u.s. sense success, 49 million americans are poor. 1 out of 6 american here. does this plan help or increase the burden on people who are not doing well and particularly within the african-american community? >> you know, one of the key things here that is very important is that we extended unemployment insurance for the lo long-term unemployed. that's important because 2 million people in our country every day beating the pavement trying to find a job. in our community, in the black community, the average length of unemployment is 27 weeks. that's exactly as long as it takes to qualify as being long-term unemployed. it's a week past six months. so for the average black person, long-term unemployment insurance is critical. for our communities it's critical, because every dollar that an unemployed person receives they can spend. they spend is very closely to where they live. that was critical, and i think frankly we saw it as one of the most critical things. >> and, ben, talk a little bit about t

following is ben smit of buzz feed, carol roth radio host and maria cardona, the democratic strategist and cnn contributor and ali velshi our chief business correspondent. what do you make of this deal that looks like it's going to be a deal, the house looks like it's going to follow the senate's lead, carol, pleat go to you first. good deal or bad deal? >> well, i guess it depends on for who. for the american people i think this is a mediocre deal at best because it doesn't have a solution. i have a very hard time throwing a parade for a congress that took 13 months to get a mediocre solution that doesn't address spending, doesn't address the debt, raises taxes not only on the wealthy but i keep hearing it's not raising taxes on the middle class. that's not true. the payroll tax cut is expiring. so taxes are going up for everybody. we're going to end up in a situation where we end up fighting over the debt ceiling and sequestration in two months. so maybe the market makes out okay but the american people didn't make out okay with this. >> but that payroll tax cut was always seen as a temp

carolina. the black high school in that city was shut down, there were boycotts, protests, and ben chavis, a reverend -- still a reverend, called in to quell some violence. one night of rioting a white-owned supermarket was firebombed. chavis, eight other black males and a white female seeing on the screen now were convicted of arson and conspiracy and sentenced to a combined 282 years. no one was killed in the fire but convicted. and a few years later, one of the witnesses recanted his story from the trial and said that he was coerced and bribed, others did the same. their convictions were overturned and they were released after about eight years. just yesterday, north carolina governor bev perdue pardoned them and gave them a pardon of innocence. here's part of what she said. convic c convictions represent an ugly stain on north carolina's justice system that cannot be allowed to stand any longer. again, four of the wilmington ten have since died before they saw that statement from north carolina's governor. >> why did it take so long? >> it happened because, after probably 25, 3
